Mining

The refining, solvent extraction, and scrubbing processes associated with the mining industry use aggressive chemicals in harsh environments.

With the consequences of unplanned shutdowns being the potential for extremely costly loss of production, it is essential to have working and reliable equipment.

FRP and other composite materials are an economical alternative to stainless and exotic metals for the mining industry due to their high level of corrosion resistance and excellent strength-to-weight ratio. Typical demands for our clients in the mining industry include lightweight materials impact/abrasion resistance, fire resistance, and conductive linings. When designing, our engineers are able to consider these requirements in conjunction with the process, environmental conditions, material properties, and safety requirements in order to specify a product which satisfies the client’s requirements.

DSA has been involved in a variety of projects, consisting of the design, fabrication surveillance, and in-service inspection of FRP equipment, including:

  • Freestanding, supported, and guyed stacks with heights up to 120m
  • Tanks
  • Settlers
  • Clarifiers
  • Ducting
  • Process Piping
  • Concrete Linings
  • Scrubbers
  • Condition assessments for FRP equipment nearing the end of its original service life
  • FRP pipe stress analysis for process piping
  • Specification and design for a variety of solvent extraction equipment
  • Development of FRP specifications & inspection plans
  • Development of FRP asset management programs
